Six dead in red sea submarine sinking

Six people are feared dead after a tourist submarine sank in the Red Sea off the coast of Egypt, with at least nine others injured, according to local reports.

The incident occurred near Hurghada, a popular tourist destination for British and German visitors. Authorities have yet to confirm the cause of the sinking. Reports indicate that the vessel, named Sindbad, had around 44 passengers of various nationalities on board.

Rescue efforts saved at least 29 people, while four of the nine injured remain in critical condition. The group had reportedly booked the trip to explore coral reefs, but the vessel capsized near a well-known hotel marina.

The Red Sea Health Directorate and Egyptian Ambulance Authority have been placed on high alert, deploying 21 ambulances to transport the injured to hospitals.

Unlike traditional submarines, these vessels do not fully submerge but allow passengers to view marine life from a lower deck. They have been operating in the area for several years.

This incident follows a similar tragedy in 2021, when a German couple and their child drowned in a submarine accident off Hurghada.
