‘Siri Dalada Wandanawa’ begins today in Kandy

Siri Dalada Wandanawa,” the special exposition of the Sacred Tooth Relic, is being held for the first time in 16 years at the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic in Kandy.

The exposition will commence this afternoon (18th of April ) and will be open to the public from 19th to 27th of April , between 12.00 noon and 5.30 p.m.

Devotees from all over Sri Lanka began preparing on 17th of April to attend this historic religious event.

On 18th of April the Sacred Tooth Relic will be displayed from 3.00 p.m. to 5.30 p.m. for an exclusive opening ceremony.

To accommodate the large crowds, three new access routes to the temple have been introduced.

Entry points include D. S. Senanayake Veediya, Sangharaja Mawatha via Ratubokkuwa, and a path through the temple grounds.

An extensive security operation is in place, including roadblocks, public searches, and traffic control measures.

Vehicular access to Kandy city has been restricted to ease traffic congestion during the event.

Designated parking areas are available for vehicles arriving from across the country.

Long-distance and city-origin buses will operate as usual, with parking facilities provided at Rajapihilla Bus Terminal and Bogambara Stadium.

Short-distance buses are not allowed to park within city limits during the exposition period.

Alternate routes have been planned for vehicles not attending the event to ensure smooth traffic flow.

Devotees are advised not to bring offerings like flowers, as these will be subject to time-consuming security checks.

Police have introduced a digital platform via daladadekma.police.lk to provide updates and guidance for devotees.

Visitors are urged not to carry heavy luggage, cameras, or electronic devices into the temple premises.

As part of the arrangements, 50 schools in and around Kandy will be closed from April 21 to 25 to support the smooth conduct of the exposition.
