Shubman Gill has been appointed as India’s new Test captain, succeeding the recently retired Rohit Sharma. He will begin his captaincy with the five-match Test series against England, starting on June 20 in Leeds.
The announcement was made on Saturday alongside the naming of the 15-member squad for the tour. At 25 years old, Gill becomes the 37th cricketer to lead India in Test cricket.
This marks a historic moment for Indian cricket, with three different captains now leading across formats: Gill in Tests, Suryakumar Yadav in T20Is, and Rohit Sharma in ODIs.
