The Colombo High Court on Thursday (June 11) dismissed an appeal filed by Shashi Weerawansa against her conviction, prison sentence, and fine for possessing an irregularly obtained passport.

Colombo High Court Judge Manjula Thilakaratne upheld the judgment previously delivered by the Colombo Magistrate’s Court, confirming both the conviction and the sentence imposed.
Shashi Weerawansa was convicted in 2022 and sentenced to two years in prison, in addition to a fine of Rs. 100,000 for the offence.
She later appealed to the Colombo High Court, seeking to overturn the conviction and sentence handed down by the Magistrate’s Court.
After reviewing the case, the High Court rejected the appeal and affirmed the original verdict, leaving the conviction, prison term, and fine unchanged.
