A 35-year-old man was arrested by the Nawalapitiya Police on suspicion of sexually abusing a seven-year-old schoolgirl, police reported on 16th of January .
Both the child and the suspect are residents of an estate in Nawalapitiya. Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, took the girl from her home to a location about 500 metres away on the afternoon of January 15 and committed the offence before leaving her at the scene.
The child was found approximately four hours later, lying 500 metres from her home, after family members conducted a search following her reported disappearance. She identified the suspect, prompting her relatives to file a complaint with the Nawalapitiya Police.
The victim was initially admitted to Nawalapitiya District General Hospital and later transferred to Peradeniya Children’s Hospital for further treatment.
