Seven Australian cities have secured places in the World’s Happiest Cities 2026 rankings, highlighting Australia’s outstanding quality of life.

Ballarat emerged as Australia’s happiest city, ranking 16th globally thanks to its strong economy, green spaces and growing population.

Maitland, Adelaide, Melbourne, Geelong, Hobart and Rockhampton also earned spots on the prestigious global list.

The rankings were based on factors including wellbeing, environmental quality, economic performance, healthcare, mobility and governance.

The results reflect Australia’s reputation as one of the world’s best places to live, with both major cities and regional centres receiving international recognition.

Experts say the success of regional cities shows that balanced lifestyles, strong communities and access to nature are becoming increasingly important to residents’ happiness.
