Set aside narrow political interests in pursuit of national progress – PM Harini

Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya has called on all Sri Lankans to work together for national progress, setting aside narrow political interests, in her message marking the 78th National Independence Day.

She said Independence Day is being celebrated with renewed hope, as the country enters a new chapter under a people’s government formed through the collective will and effort of citizens. The Prime Minister noted that the government has begun building a nation for future generations, grounded in human values, strengthened by skills, and enriched by knowledge.

Dr. Amarasuriya emphasized that every citizen has a responsibility to contribute meaningfully to the nation, guided by shared values. She reaffirmed the government’s commitment to key national priorities, including economic stabilization, political reform through a renewed political culture, social equality and dignity, and addressing long-standing rural poverty.

She also highlighted efforts to strengthen welfare mechanisms to protect vulnerable groups, accelerate digital transformation through science and technology, and position Sri Lanka internationally through a non-aligned foreign policy that fosters trust and cooperation with all nations.

Concluding her message, the Prime Minister urged all Sri Lankans to unite with confidence and determination, calling on the public to work collectively toward national renewal as the country marks its 78th year of independence.
