
The second budget of the National People’s Power (NPP) government is set to be presented to Parliament tomorrow (07), marking the 80th national budget since Sri Lanka gained independence.
President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, in his capacity as Minister of Finance, will deliver the second reading of the Appropriation Bill—commonly known as the budget speech—in Parliament.
The first reading of the Appropriation Bill was presented on September 26, 2025. Following the presentation of the 2026 Budget, the debate on the second reading will begin on Saturday (08).
Parliament has allocated six days for the debate on the second reading, with the vote scheduled for 6:00 p.m. on November 14. The Committee Stage debate will then take place over 17 days, from November 15 to December 5.
The final vote on the third reading of the Appropriation Bill is slated for 6:00 p.m. on December 5.
