
Cricket legend Kumar Sangakkara is set to captain the Sri Lankan team in the inaugural International Masters League (IML), scheduled to take place in Sri Lanka from 22nd of February to 16th of March.
The first season of the IML will feature iconic players rekindling historic rivalries, with teams representing cricketing giants like India, Sri Lanka, Australia, England, South Africa, and the West Indies.
Matches will be hosted at renowned venues, including the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot, and Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Raipur.
Legendary captains such as Sachin Tendulkar (India), Brian Lara (West Indies), Kumar Sangakkara (Sri Lanka), Shane Watson (Australia), Eoin Morgan (England), and Jacques Kallis (South Africa) will lead their respective teams.
Sunil Gavaskar, League Commissioner of the IML, expressed his enthusiasm for the league, highlighting its goal of uniting cricket’s finest players to create a spectacle for fans.
The IML Governing Council, comprising cricket greats Sunil Gavaskar, Vivian Richards, and Shaun Pollock, will oversee the league’s strategy, rules, and operations to ensure a premier experience for fans.
Gavaskar, celebrated as the first batter to score 10,000 Test runs, will bring his cricketing wisdom and integrity to the league.
Vivian Richards, known for his dominance in both Test and limited-overs cricket during the 1970s and 1980s, adds his unmatched legacy to the IML leadership.
Shaun Pollock, a versatile all-rounder and former South African captain, contributes his vast cricketing expertise to the Governing Council.
