Sajith urges education reform without damaging Sri Lanka’s global reputation

Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa emphasized the urgent need to reform Sri Lanka’s education system to align with global standards.

He referred to a recent incident involving Minister Sunil Handunetti at the World Economic Forum, which he said brought embarrassment to the country.

Premadasa stated that Sri Lanka risks becoming a laughing stock internationally due to its outdated education system.

He pointed out that the incident at the forum was a clear consequence of the country’s failure to modernize its educational framework.

Highlighting the importance of English language proficiency among students, Premadasa recalled how his earlier call for improvement was ridiculed.

He asserted that the recent events have validated his concerns and stressed the need for immediate action.
