Sajith Premadasa said that the ninth coal shipment imported to Sri Lanka has been found to be of inferior quality based on real-time data.
Speaking at a ceremony held at the Kalyanarama Abinawarama Temple in Homagama, he stated that only about 250 MW of electricity has been generated from the ninth coal shipment, compared to around 275 MW during earlier use, while the standard generation capacity is about 300 MW.
Premadasa added that the ninth shipment had also been procured from a South African supplier, raising concerns about coal quality and power generation efficiency.
