Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa today called for a new national recovery programme following the recent disaster, saying Sri Lanka should cancel its current IMF agreement and negotiate a fresh one.
Premadasa said the existing Extended Fund Facility arrangement with the IMF is no longer workable in the aftermath of the crisis, making a new agreement essential.
He also suggested that Sri Lanka begin discussions with U.S. President Donald Trump to secure reciprocal tariff benefits.
In addition, Premadasa urged the government to present a new budget and convene an international donor conference to support the country’s recovery efforts.
He stated that the opposition is prepared to work with the government to implement these initiatives.
