Sajith accuses speaker of disrespecting opposition MPs

Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa today accused Speaker of Parliament Jagath Wickramaratne of insulting opposition members following remarks suggesting that five MPs had not passed Grade 5.

Speaking in Parliament, Premadasa said such comments violated Standing Orders, which prohibit MPs from making derogatory statements about fellow legislators during proceedings.

He emphasized that the Speaker’s remarks were an insult to the opposition and undermined parliamentary decorum.

Premadasa also criticized the government, saying it mocked opposition MPs over their education while simultaneously attempting to introduce obscene content into the Grade 6 curriculum.
