Sajith accuses government of stalling grade 6 reforms, pledges support

Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa stated that the opposition is prepared to support the proper implementation of education reforms.

He criticised the government for failing to introduce Grade 6 reforms, saying the delay has left many children at a disadvantage, and emphasised that responsibility for halting the reforms lies with the current President and the government, not the opposition.

Premadasa noted that thousands of parents had expected Grade 6 reforms to be implemented this year, but those expectations were undermined due to delays.

He urged the authorities to consult education sector experts to address shortcomings and ensure the reforms are implemented correctly and swiftly within the year.

He also said the opposition is ready to contribute ideas through formal discussions and extend full support to ensure the reforms are carried out effectively.
