
The Minister of Public Administration, Provincial Councils, and Local Government has revealed that Rs. 30 billion in pension arrears and gratuities remain unpaid.
Minister Professor Chandana Abeyrathna stated that this has caused significant inconvenience for approximately 600,000 pensioners.
Some of these arrears have reportedly been outstanding since as far back as 1992.
The Minister assured that plans are being formulated to promptly settle these long-overdue payments.
Discussions with the Ministry of Finance are underway to address the issue and allocate necessary funds.
Professor Abeyrathna also criticized previous governments for neglecting pension gratuities and directed officials to expedite the resolution process.
