Police confirmed that Rs. 13.96 million has gone missing from a cash van belonging to a financial institution in Bambalapitiya.
Authorities said that the van, which was carrying 15 bags of cash, was being transferred from a branch in Wellawatte to another location when one bag went missing during a routine check.
Bambalapitiya police have launched a full-scale investigation to determine how the funds disappeared and identify those responsible.
Officials have not yet provided further information on suspects or possible security lapses.
