The Bureau of Meteorology has forecast cooler weather for southern Victoria, bringing relief after the recent heatwave.
Cooler conditions are expected to move across the South Australian border into southwestern Victoria early this morning.
Thunderstorms have been reported in parts of western Victoria, with Melbourne experiencing overnight temperatures of 20°C.
The Bureau has warned that lightning may have sparked fires and urged Melbourne residents to remain cautious.
Authorities have also warned that strong winds and shifting wind directions will lead to heavy smoke in the Bullengrook and Gisborne areas, northwest of Melbourne.
Residents in parts of southwestern Victoria were advised to evacuate yesterday as several bushfires spread uncontrollably.
