Rear seat belts mandatory on expressways from today

The Ministry of Transport and Highways has announced that wearing seat belts in the rear seats of all light vehicles traveling on expressways will be mandatory starting today (1st of August ).

This regulation, aimed at improving road safety, will be enforced across all expressways in the country, including the Southern, Colombo–Katunayake, and Central Expressways.

According to the Ministry, the rule applies to both drivers and rear-seat passengers.

Police officers and expressway officials have been instructed to strictly enforce the regulation, with legal action to be taken against anyone found in violation.
