Rare event, all planets align, says scientist

Space Scientist and Engineering Lecturer Gihan Weerasekera has stated that, in a rare celestial event, all planets in our solar system—except Mercury—are currently aligned, though only four are visible to the naked eye.

He explained that Saturn, Venus, Jupiter, and Mars can be seen without aid, while Uranus and Neptune require a telescope or binoculars due to their faintness.

All planets are aligning along the ecliptic, the Sun’s apparent path, making them visible together in the night sky for at least a month.

By the end of February, Mercury will also become visible, and on 25th of February, all planets—including Mercury—will align in a single line after 7 p.m.
