Queensland’s new Premier David Crisafulli has promised to legislate age-of-criminal-responsibility policies by Christmas.
David Crisafulli has announced that he will be sworn in as the new Prime Minister after the Liberal Party won a majority in the state elections.
Accordingly, he joins the records as the 41st Prime Minister of the state of Queensland.
He has vowed to introduce legislation to make Queensland safer before the end of the year.
He emphasized that punishments for young offenders involved in controversial crimes would also be increased and that those found guilty of manslaughter would also receive mandatory life imprisonment.
Critics, however, say the changes will put more pressure on youth detention centers that are already at capacity, and more children will end up in prison.
Meanwhile, outgoing Prime Minister Stephen Miles told reporters that he hopes to continue as leader of the Labor Party and serve as Leader of the Opposition.
