Qantas launches ‘largest’ domestic sale in five years today with 1.9 million seats discounted

Qantas has launched one of its largest domestic sales of the decade, offering discounts on 1.9 million seats. The sale, which begins Tuesday, promises some of the lowest fares in five years, but seats are expected to sell out quickly.

Economy fares include Sydney to Byron Bay for $99 one-way and Sydney to Hobart for $159, compared to normal prices of $115 and $200 in August. Other deals include Adelaide to Sydney for $189, Brisbane to Melbourne for $195, and Perth to Melbourne for $319. All fares include checked baggage up to 23 kilograms and in-flight snacks or meals, depending on flight duration.

Qantas’ domestic CEO, Markus Svensson, said, “We’ve got some of the best holiday destinations right on our doorstep, and this sale puts them within reach for more people. From hidden regional gems to capital city favourites, we’re making it easier to discover our own backyard.”

In addition, Qantas has introduced its new Economy Plus service, offering up to 40% more legroom on domestic and short-haul international flights, along with priority boarding and overhead baggage access. The service will initially be available on Boeing 737s, Airbus A321XLRs, and A220s, covering domestic routes as well as destinations like New Zealand, the Pacific Islands, and Bali.

Economy Plus pricing varies by route, starting at $30 (or 5,000 points) for Sydney to Melbourne, $70 (12,000 points) for Sydney to Perth, $90 (15,000 points) for Melbourne to Denpasar, and $35 (6,000 points) for Melbourne to Auckland.
