PT licence to be made mandatory for all public transport drivers by December

Transport Minister Bimal Ratnayake announced yesterday (20th) that all public transport drivers will be required to obtain a Public Transport (PT) licence by December 31.

Speaking at a meeting in Ampara, he confirmed that the necessary regulations have already been finalised.

The Minister also highlighted that seat belts have been made compulsory. However, since most buses currently lack them, owners may modify their vehicles but are not allowed to add seat belts afterward.

He stressed that the public transport sector should be managed by responsible individuals, adding that those who do not treat the profession seriously are unfit to carry passengers.
