Prof. Harding meets PM to discuss new education evaluation reforms

A special discussion was held at the Ministry of Education, Isurupaya, between Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya and Professor Luke William Harding, Chairman of the committee reviewing evaluation and assessment reforms.

Professor Harding, a globally recognized expert in language research and educational assessment, is visiting Sri Lanka from March 20 to 25, 2026, to take part in key discussions on the proposed framework. During his visit, he will engage in policy talks and workshops with several institutions, including the Digital Task Force, Department of Examinations, National Institute of Education, and the National Education Commission, while also leading a special session on teacher professional development.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Amarasuriya stated that a new assessment process aligned with international standards will be introduced for Grade 6 under a module-based system. She emphasized the need for clear guidelines for teachers to ensure qualitative evaluation of classroom activities and noted that the reforms aim to help students identify their abilities and achieve educational goals without unnecessary pressure.

The discussion was attended by Deputy Minister Madura Seneviratne, Ministry Secretary Nalaka Kaluwewa, Commissioner General of Examinations Indika Liyanage, and members of the Education Reform Evaluation Committee.
