Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya chaired a Cabinet-appointed committee meeting on April 3 to review measures aimed at maintaining uninterrupted public services while managing fuel and energy use amid challenges linked to the Middle East conflict.
The virtual meeting assessed progress on national fuel and energy management efforts, including plans to conduct school-level awareness programmes on April 7 and 9.
According to the Ministry of Public Administration, key examinations, including the Grama Niladhari entrance exam, were held as scheduled, while guidelines issued by the Office of the Commissioner General of Essential Services are being implemented across ministries with ongoing monitoring.
The Ministry of Health and Mass Media reported a 42 percent reduction in diesel consumption as of March 31, alongside continued efforts to manage electricity and water usage.
Meanwhile, ministries such as Transport, Digital Economy and Justice are maintaining services by deploying essential staff and utilising online systems, while universities are operating virtually where possible.
The committee also reviewed mechanisms to further strengthen monitoring of fuel and energy usage across public institutions.
