“President’s fund transformed into public fund benefiting all” – PM Harini

Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya stated that under the present government, the President’s Fund, which was previously a privilege for select groups, is now being utilized entirely for the benefit of the people.

She made these remarks at the Central Province program held today (14) at the Kandy District Secretariat, where students who excelled in the 2023 (2024) and 2024 G.C.E. Advanced Level Examinations were recognized. Certificates were awarded to outstanding students representing each subject stream from all districts.

Extending her best wishes to the students and their parents, the Prime Minister emphasized that these youth are expected to lead the country’s future transformation.

Highlighting past misuse of the President’s Fund, she stressed that the current government has ensured it is fully dedicated to its true purpose and made more accessible to the public across the country. She further noted that education and human resource development remain top priorities, requiring not just financial investment but holistic support.

Speaker of Parliament Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne also addressed the event, stating that the President’s Fund belongs to the people and ensuring its proper use is the responsibility of the government. He underscored the importance of human resource development in Sri Lanka’s democratic transformation, given its large youth population.

Deputy Minister of Transport and Highways Dr. Prasanna Gunasena remarked that society needs a generation of students who are socially sensitive, think beyond academic qualifications, and are prepared to build the nation.

The event was attended by Speaker Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne, Central Province Governor Prof. S. B. S. Abayakoon, several deputy ministers, members of parliament, officials of the President’s Fund, students, and parents.
