The President criticized past leaders for failing to capitalize on the country’s abundant natural resources due to poor planning and governance.
He noted that the current administration is systematically rebuilding the national economy with a focus on stability and long-term development.
These remarks were made during a religious ceremony to open the Relic Chamber and unveil the Meth Bodhisattva statue at Siri Samadhi Maha Viharaya in Galkiriyagama.
President Dissanayake participated in the ceremony upon the invitation of Venerable Kagama Sirinanda Thero and offered the first floral tribute.
Addressing the gathering, the President stated that his leadership is driven not by personal ambition, but by a genuine desire to uplift the lives of all Sri Lankans.
He emphasized the government’s efforts to establish the rule of law and build a unified nation where all citizens can thrive.
The President also highlighted the government’s commitment to protecting future generations from the drug menace by strengthening institutions to combat trafficking and related crimes.
He praised the role of the Maha Sangha and religious leaders in guiding society towards compassion, discipline, and national unity.
The event was attended by senior monks and religious dignitaries, as well as key political figures including Minister Wasantha Samarasinghe and MP Thilina Samarakoon.
