President vows to crush underworld crime

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake reaffirmed today that all necessary measures will be taken to eliminate underworld activities, though the process will require time.

Speaking at the first meeting of the Ministerial Consultative Committee on Defence in the 10th Parliament, he highlighted that criminal elements have infiltrated certain public security institutions.

The President also announced plans to strengthen court security with modern technology, reassess military-occupied lands, and explore the economic potential of military-run businesses.

Emphasizing the need to remove religious and ethnic extremism from politics, he warned against its exploitation for political gains.

Additionally, he instructed officials to fast-track the establishment of a National Disaster Management Committee.

The meeting was attended by senior government officials, military leaders, and Members of Parliament.
