
President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has directed officials to swiftly implement plans to position Sri Lanka as a top tourist destination, according to the President’s Media Division (PMD).
Highlighting the importance of the “Clean Sri Lanka” initiative, the President noted that its success would play a pivotal role in strengthening the country’s tourism promotion efforts.
During a meeting held yesterday (30th) at the Presidential Secretariat, the President discussed strategies to establish Sri Lanka as one of Asia’s most valuable and environmentally sustainable islands. The discussions also emphasized leveraging environmental and cultural assets to boost the tourism sector.
Special focus was placed on bringing together stakeholders from both formal and informal sectors to collaboratively advance the nation’s tourism industry.
Key attendees included Dr. Hiniduma Sunil Senevi, Minister of Buddhasasana, Religious, and Cultural Affairs; Dr. Dammika Patabendi, Minister of Environment; Buddhika Hewawasam, Chairman of the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau; Chandana Sooriyabandara, Director General of the Department of Wildlife Conservation; Dr. T.M.J. Nilan Cooray, Director General of the Central Cultural Fund; and other officials.
