
President Anura Kumara Dissanayake held a high-level meeting last Friday with officials from the Digital Economy Ministry and heads of affiliated institutions to assess the progress of key digital economic initiatives.
At the meeting held at the Presidential Secretariat, the President stressed the urgent need to accelerate the implementation of digital infrastructure solutions that directly benefit citizens.
Discussions centered on priority projects such as the Electronic National Identity Card (e-NIC), the GovPay payment platform, the Digital Television Project, and strategies to achieve digital economy revenue targets.
Special focus was given to reviewing the roadmap for digital economic development, which remains a key pillar of the Government’s broader development strategy.
The meeting also explored proposals for strengthening the roles of the TRCSL and the Data Protection Authority, as well as establishing a Digital Economic Authority and cybersecurity institutions under new legislation.
