The long-delayed construction of the Nindavur Cultural Centre, which had been halted midway after beginning several years ago, will officially recommence yesterday morning (22) under the leadership of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
The project, which aims to preserve the rich cultural heritage of the Ampara District and pass it on to future generations, has been allocated Rs. 300 million under the 2026 Budget.
The total estimated cost of the project is Rs. 945.04 million, with completion scheduled for December 31, 2027.
Later yesterday, President Dissanayake is also expected to chair the Ampara District Special Coordinating Committee meeting at the District Secretariat auditorium.
The meeting will focus on reviewing the progress of ongoing development projects, relief measures for communities affected by Cyclone Ditwah, and infrastructure development programmes in the district.
In addition, the construction of the Ampara Multipurpose Town Hall, which has been identified as a long-standing requirement for the town, will also be launched yesterday morning under the President’s leadership.
The town hall project is valued at Rs. 1,744.85 million and is expected to be completed by December 31, 2028.
According to the President’s Office, both projects reflect the government’s commitment to strengthening cultural infrastructure and addressing the needs of communities in the Ampara District.
