President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has announced that 30,000 young people will be recruited into the public service, with the necessary funds already allocated for the initiative.
Speaking at a public meeting in Buttala ahead of the local government elections, the President reaffirmed the government’s commitment to creating job opportunities for youth.
“We are recruiting 30,000 talented young people. The funds have been allocated, and I have seen many advertisements in newspapers. Those who apply will receive jobs,” he stated.
Beyond employment, President Dissanayake also emphasized efforts to expand welfare support. He noted that 400,000 families who are eligible for ‘Aswesuma’ welfare benefits but have not yet received them will be included by June through a selection process.
Additionally, to assist nearly 800,000 people who have received no aid, the government will introduce a special food relief program, offering a Rs. 5,000 food bag for Rs. 2,500 through Sathosa.
The President also acknowledged disparities in financial assistance within the public sector, highlighting that while some employees have received salary increases and pension adjustments, many others continue to struggle without such benefits.
