President pledges swift resolution to public service allowance issues

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has requested public servants to grant the government a short period to address ongoing concerns related to allowances, noting that a comprehensive review process is currently underway.

He stated that the third phase of the public sector salary increment is scheduled for 2027, after which the government will consider introducing additional allowances for public servants.

The President made these remarks while addressing the Nuwara Eliya District programme of the “Ratama Ekata” national initiative, where he emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring a satisfactory standard of living for public sector employees.

Referring to the recent disaster situation, President Dissanayake said that Rs. 500 billion had been allocated from the Treasury to mitigate the damage caused across the country. He stressed that the funds were secured without obtaining loans or printing money.

He further noted that the Treasury held approximately Rs. 1,200 billion in its accounts at the time, which enabled the government to allocate the Rs. 500 billion for disaster relief and recovery efforts.
