
A high-level discussion on improving the medicine supply process was held on July 22 at the Presidential Secretariat, chaired by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
Health and Mass Media Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, Deputy Minister Dr. Hansaka Wijemuni, and senior officials from the Ministry of Health also took part in the meeting.
The discussion focused on reviewing the current system of medicine procurement and distribution and identifying gaps and inefficiencies in the process.
President Dissanayake instructed officials to streamline the mechanism to ensure a continuous and uninterrupted supply of essential medicines to the public.
He also called for immediate action to resolve medicine shortages reported in some hospitals and urged steps to prevent such issues from recurring.
The President stressed the importance of long-term planning and coordination to strengthen the country’s healthcare delivery system.
He also highlighted that the Treasury has already allocated the necessary funds for hospital medicine procurement and emphasized the need for collective responsibility to maintain quality healthcare services.
