
President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and officials of the Department of Inland Revenue have held discussions on programmes aimed at strengthening the capacity of the department, including broadening tax revenue, maximising tax compliance, and recovering outstanding tax arrears.
The meeting was held at the Presidential Secretariat this afternoon, where progress achieved by the department so far in 2026 was also reviewed, according to the President’s Media Division (PMD).
The PMD said extensive discussions were also held on the institutional restructuring and digitalisation measures required to achieve these objectives.
Accordingly, progress on the introduction of the national e-invoicing system and the related legal provisions was also reviewed during the meeting.
President Dissanayake instructed officials to ensure that the entire project is completed within the stipulated timeframe, the PMD added.
