President Anura Kumara Dissanayake said Sri Lanka has succeeded in maintaining balanced diplomatic relations over the past year. He stressed that in today’s interconnected world, no country can progress alone, and Sri Lanka is working to strengthen its global position through diplomacy.
The President noted that national unity is essential for moving forward and highlighted that the past year will be remembered as one without attempts at ethno-religious conflict.
He made these remarks at an event in Tokyo’s Reiyukai Hall, where he met with Sri Lankans living in Japan. The gathering, organized by the Sri Lankan Embassy and volunteer groups, saw the participation of the Maha Sangha, religious leaders, professionals, and students.
The President said Sri Lankans, both at home and abroad, supported the current government not for personal gain but for a collective transformation. He added that the government’s progress over the past year should be measured against the people’s hopes of reviving the economy, ensuring stability, strengthening the rule of law, fighting corruption, and building an efficient state.
He emphasized that Sri Lanka’s economy is stabilizing and the government is determined to meet growth targets. He further assured that no new taxes are expected in the next budget, with possible reductions in existing tax rates.
Calling on Sri Lankans in Japan to invest in their homeland, the President promised government support and facilities for those willing to partner in national development.
