President Anura Kumara Dissanayake met separately with the High Commissioners of Malaysia, Canada, and Australia at the Presidential Secretariat, the President’s Media Division (PMD) reported.
In discussions with Malaysian High Commissioner Badli Hisham bin Adam, both parties explored ways to further strengthen bilateral ties. The Malaysian envoy expressed readiness to share his country’s recent achievements and expertise with Sri Lanka, particularly in tourism, trade, and education.
The President also met with Canadian High Commissioner Eric Walsh, extending best wishes as Mr. Walsh concludes his term in Sri Lanka. Acknowledging the significant Sri Lankan diaspora in Canada, President Dissanayake expressed gratitude for Canada’s assistance during the recent economic crisis, as well as its support for human rights and reconciliation initiatives. He voiced hope for continued cooperation in these areas.
In a separate meeting, the President bid farewell to Australian High Commissioner Paul Stephens, who is also completing his term. He praised Mr. Stephens’ role in strengthening bilateral ties, highlighting visits by several Australian diplomats during his tenure. The Australian envoy reaffirmed his country’s commitment to supporting Sri Lanka’s development, particularly in tourism, education, and vocational training.
Secretary to the President Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake and Senior Additional Secretary to the President Roshan Gamage were also present at the meetings.
