Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, who is in New York for the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, met UN Secretary-General António Guterres at the UN Headquarters on the afternoon of the 25th.

The Secretary-General warmly welcomed President Dissanayake, and the two leaders engaged in a cordial discussion.

President Dissanayake highlighted Sri Lanka’s ongoing economic reforms, debt restructuring programme, and other key initiatives aimed at strengthening the country’s economic, social, and political progress.

Secretary-General Guterres praised the Sri Lankan government’s new progressive agenda, assuring that the United Nations fully supports and will continue to cooperate with Sri Lanka.

The meeting was also attended by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism Vijitha Herath, Sri Lanka’s Permanent Representative to the UN and former Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya, as well as senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
