President forms task force to lead strategic tourism development program

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has announced the formation of a Presidential Task Force to implement the country’s tourism development program, through an Extraordinary Gazette Notification.

The 28-member Task Force will be chaired by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism, with the Deputy Minister of Tourism serving as Vice-Chairman. The Secretary to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism has been appointed as the Task Force Secretary.

The Gazette emphasizes that, under the policy statement “New Tourism Industry – Attractive Destination,” the government is prioritizing rapid progress in tourism development to meet public expectations.

It also highlights the importance of launching a well-planned and timely strategy to strengthen the tourism sector, which is considered a key source of foreign exchange. The Presidential Task Force has therefore been established to drive the effective implementation of this strategic tourism development program.
