President departs for US to attend UN general assembly

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake departed for the United States tonight to take part in the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). The delegation left on a Dubai-bound flight at around 10:20 p.m., with the President scheduled to connect to New York thereafter.

He was accompanied by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism Promotion Vijitha Herath, along with senior government officials.

According to the President’s Media Division, President Dissanayake will address the UNGA on Wednesday (24th) at 3:15 p.m. and also hold bilateral discussions with UN Secretary-General António Guterres and several world leaders.

In addition, he is expected to meet with members of the Sri Lankan community in the U.S. before departing for Japan on 27th of September for an official visit.
