President calls for speedy completion of university degree programs

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has urged the Federation of University Teachers’ Associations (FUTA) to formulate a comprehensive plan to resolve delays in university degree programmes and enhance the overall efficiency of higher education institutions.

During a meeting with FUTA representatives held yesterday morning (20th) at the Presidential Secretariat, the President stressed the importance of a strategic approach to ensure the timely completion of degree programmes, better management of academic workloads, and the promotion of research and development. He assured that the government would extend full support and provide the necessary facilities to implement the proposed plan.

FUTA representatives raised several concerns, including prolonged delays in academic programmes, difficulties in recruiting and retaining qualified academic staff, and the need for measures to improve the quality of higher education.

In response, President Dissanayake called for swift and coordinated action, emphasizing that comprehensive reforms are vital to strengthen Sri Lanka’s university system and align it with the country’s development goals.
