President calls for long-term strategy to prevent recurring mass-scale disasters

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has stressed the need for a long-term strategy to prevent large-scale natural disasters from recurring in the future.

He attended a special coordination committee meeting yesterday (07th) at the Kurunegala District Secretariat to review the measures being taken to restore normalcy and rebuild essential infrastructure in the district, which has been severely affected by the recent disaster.

During the meeting, the President expressed his gratitude to everyone involved in the crisis response, including public officials, Police, and Tri-Forces personnel, the President’s Media Division said in a statement.

Extensive discussions were held on restoring essential services such as electricity, water supply, telecommunications, and irrigation systems. The meeting also focused on re-cultivating farmlands, resuming agricultural activities, restoring healthcare services, reopening schools, and ensuring the resettlement of affected families.

President Dissanayake further stressed that unauthorized construction must not be allowed under any circumstances and stated that laws will be strengthened to prevent such activities, according to the PMD.
