According to the February 2025 results of the Gallup-style How the Country Thinks poll conducted by Verity Research, public approval of the Sri Lankan government has significantly increased since the election.
Verity Research released a statement yesterday (23) revealing that government approval, which stood at 24% in July 2024, has now risen to 62%.
For the first time since the economic crisis, a majority of the population (55%) believes that Sri Lanka’s economic situation is improving. However, 47% of respondents still consider the overall economic situation to be weak—though this is a decline from the 71% recorded in July 2024.
The poll also shows a significant drop in public disapproval of the government’s performance, falling from 60% to 16%, marking a 44% decrease.
Similarly, the percentage of people who believe Sri Lanka’s economy is worsening has declined from 65% to 14%, reflecting a 51% decrease.
