President Anura announces investment protection act to US business delegation

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake emphasized that the security of investors and investments entering Sri Lanka has been fully ensured under the current government.

He made these remarks during a discussion held yesterday at the Presidential Secretariat with a delegation of U.S. business representatives visiting the country to explore investment opportunities, the business environment, and the legal framework.

The President stated that a secure and transparent environment for investments has now been established, noting that past irregularities have been addressed. He added that the government is formulating new laws within a democratic framework to ensure stability and investor confidence.

Highlighting that attracting foreign investment is a top national priority, President Dissanayake said the government is taking measures to protect investors, expand opportunities, and streamline operations. He further revealed that an Investment Protection Act is being introduced to strengthen these efforts.

The President also noted that the government is working toward fostering national unity beyond ethnic and religious divisions, creating an efficient public service, ensuring transparent diplomatic relations, and promoting digitalization to enhance the investment climate.

The visiting U.S. delegation included Harlan Crow, Chairman of Crow Holdings; Krishna Balam, Head of U.S.-India Relations and M&A Business; Sarah Stern, President of Hudson Institute; Ravenel B. Curry, Co-Chief Investment Officer and Founder of Eagle Capital Management; Lucy Billingsley, Co-Founder of Billingsley Company; Katherine Crow, Civic Leader and SMU Trustee; and Walter Russell Mead, Member of the Hudson Institute.

Labour Minister and Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning Anil Jayanta Fernando, Secretary to the Ministry of Finance Dr. Harshana Sooriyapperuma, and Senior Additional Secretary to the President Russell Aponsu also attended the meeting.
