President announces revival of key Japanese, Chinese projects

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake announced that 11 Japanese projects and 76 Chinese projects, which were previously stalled but provide significant economic benefits to Sri Lanka, have now resumed.

Speaking at the 26th Anniversary of the Chamber of Young Lankan Entrepreneurs (COYLE) at the Shangri-La Hotel in Colombo, he reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting Sri Lankan entrepreneurs in accessing global markets.

The President emphasized that the government has a strategic plan to integrate diplomats and entrepreneurs into a unified process, facilitating international trade. He also highlighted that this year’s budget is designed to create a dynamic and flexible economy, ensuring economic mobility without major financial shocks.

He assured that economic policies are being implemented responsibly, without placing excessive strain on the Sri Lankan Rupee. Some decisions were made in alignment with IMF recommendations to restore confidence in an economy that had previously collapsed. As a result, Sri Lanka, once officially declared bankrupt, has now managed to recover.

Dissanayake also stressed that public funds are managed with accountability and that large-scale investments, including a 50-megawatt wind power plant in Mannar, are being facilitated under transparent, corruption-free policies. He further stated that investors now operate in a business-friendly environment without the need for commissions.

The President reiterated the government’s focus on empowering young entrepreneurs, both locally and internationally. He also highlighted the political stability of the current administration, stating that there is now a clear distinction between the government and the opposition, unlike in previous parliaments.

He assured that by the end of his administration’s tenure, Sri Lanka would have a stable and responsible political system, preventing the resurgence of past destructive political climates. The event was attended by government ministers, state officials, diplomats, and young entrepreneurs.
