President Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s Statement on the Sacred Tooth Relic Exposition.
At my request, the Mahanayake Theras have decided to hold a special exposition of the Sacred Tooth Relic for the public from April 18th to 27th—a sacred event taking place after 16 years.
The exposition will be held at the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic in Kandy, with special viewing times: 3:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on April 18th and 12:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. from April 19th to 27th. A preliminary discussion on the arrangements was held today (March 2nd) at the President’s House in Kandy.
I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the Mahanayake Theras for granting the Buddhist community of Sri Lanka this opportunity. This sacred event will help restore cultural and religious values, strengthen Buddhist awareness, and serve as an extension of the New Year celebrations.
To ensure smooth proceedings, the government will provide maximum support, including:
- Establishing three separate lines for devotees.
- Following Mahanayake Theras’ guidance for security.
- Arranging health, sanitation, and transportation facilities.
- Permitting registered individuals to serve meals at Dansalas.
- Temporarily adjusting school schedules in Kandy.
I invite all Sri Lankans to participate in this historic and sacred event, and I assure that the government will take every step to facilitate a peaceful and meaningful worship experience.
The discussion was attended by the Maha Sangha, government ministers, provincial officials, and senior officers from the tri-forces and police to coordinate arrangements for this revered occasion.
