
Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, who is currently on a three-day official visit to India, held a meeting with Indian President Droupadi Murmu last night.
The meeting was attended by numerous diplomats from both Sri Lanka and India.
The talks concentrated on enhancing the enduring Indo-Sri Lanka relationship and addressing regional security concerns.
President Murmu underscored the significance of Sri Lanka in India’s ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy, as well as its strategic vision for regional security and development, known as SAGAR.
She reassured President Dissanayake that India would continue to support Sri Lanka’s pursuit of sustainable economic growth.
The two leaders also signed a joint statement, reflecting their mutual commitment to reinforcing bilateral ties.
President Murmu expressed optimism that India’s investment projects would contribute significantly to Sri Lanka’s economic recovery and stability.
She emphasized that this visit signals a new phase of collaboration focused on strengthening peaceful and prosperous relations, particularly in maritime security.
After the meeting, President Dissanayake and his delegation were hosted at a dinner reception by Indian President Murmu.
The President’s schedule also includes a visit to Bodh Gaya this morning.
According to the President’s Media Division, President Dissanayake is expected to return to Sri Lanka later this evening after completing his official engagements in India.
