Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa said today that a politician who is not emotionally connected with the people can never truly become a leader of the people.

In a Facebook post, Rajapaksa noted that while the term of a Presidency may end, the love of the people never fades.

“Most of my life has been spent among the people, and it remains the same even today. The term of Presidency can end, but the people’s love goes beyond that. It never ends. The people stood with me both in power and out of power,” he wrote.

Rajapaksa also expressed gratitude to the Maha Sangha, who continue to visit him at his Carlton residence to invoke blessings, and extended thanks to the people, politicians, and professionals who inquire about his health.
