Sri Lanka Police have warned the public about fraudulent social media messages falsely claiming to be official notices regarding the payment of traffic violation fines.
The Police say several complaints have been received in recent days about such deceptive messages, which are being used to carry out phishing attacks and online scams.
Authorities have urged the public not to click on suspicious links received through SMS, emails, messaging applications, or forwarded online content, and to verify the authenticity of websites and senders before responding.
Police also advise against sharing personal information, bank account details, OTPs, or passwords through unverified links or unknown websites.
The public is encouraged to rely only on official police announcements and authorized government websites for accurate information, and to report suspicious messages or websites to the relevant authorities.
The Police Media Division stressed that following these precautions will help reduce the risk of cybercrime and protect individuals from financial and personal data theft.
