Sri Lanka Police have issued a warning to the public about fraudulent messages circulating on social media offering airline tickets at unusually low or discounted rates.
Police stated that these deceptive advertisements are designed to mislead customers and steal money and personal information through false claims.
The public has been urged to exercise extreme caution and follow basic safety measures to avoid falling victim to such scams. Individuals are advised not to click on suspicious or unverified links, as these may be used to collect sensitive personal data.
Authorities also warned against sharing banking details, including OTPs and passwords, emphasizing that legitimate airlines or authorized agents do not request such information via calls or messages.
Police further stressed the importance of verifying promotional offers through official airline websites or their verified social media pages, and recommended confirming travel deals through registered and reputable travel agents before making bookings.
They called on the public to remain vigilant and to share awareness about such scams with friends and family to prevent further incidents of fraud.
