Police to investigate misuse of president’s fund

Sri Lanka Police have announced the launch of a special investigation into the potential misuse of the President’s Fund.

Acting Inspector General of Police, Attorney Priyantha Weerasuriya, confirmed that the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has been directed to conduct the inquiry.

A group of legal professionals from the Organization of Lawyers to Protect Public Funds filed a complaint at the police headquarters, calling for an investigation into the misuse of the President’s Fund.

Attorney Suranga Bandara, representing the organization, stated that several Members of Parliament had received substantial amounts from the fund.

He emphasized that the key issue to investigate is whether these funds were formally requested, and the organization’s goal is to determine if any fraudulent activity occurred during the process.
